UK Senior Citizens Charities
Age Concern promotes the well-being of all older people and to help make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.
Most of their work is carried out locally. Throughout the country, in cities, towns and villages, they provide direct help to over a million older people each year - allowing them to live as independently as possible for as long as possible.
Contact the Elderly groups organise gatherings for frail, elderly people who live alone. One Sunday afternoon a month, volunteer drivers take elderly people on regular visits to hosts homes. Groups of between ten and sixteen people visit a different home every month and spend a few hours in the company of friends, old and new.
The only specialist national charity for people in their last years and their much loved, much needed companion animals.
A network of 8,000 volunteers “hold hands” with owners to provide vital loving care for their pets. We keep them together - for example, we’ll walk a dog every day for a housebound owner, we’ll foster pets when owners need hospital care, we’ll fetch the cat food, or even clean out the bird cage, etc.
When staying at home is no longer an option, our Pet Friendly Care Homes Register lists residential/nursing homes happy to accept residents with pets. And when a pet is bereaved we take on full time, life time care.
The charity Friends of the Elderly has been helping older people since 1905. Our vision is that all older people should retain their independence, dignity and peace of mind. We offer high quality residential and nursing care in 17 care homes, some with dementia units. We support older people to stay living in their own homes with a range of community services including welfare grants for those in financial need, day clubs, home support, home visiting and telephone befriending.
